Capitol School of Austin Internships:
Students typically commit to 8-10 hours a week in one of our eight classrooms. Capitol School is a private, non-profit school of children ages 2 years – 4th grade who are identified with speech, language and learning differences. Classrooms are mostly taught by masters level speech-language pathologists and special educators. Interns have the opportunity to observe and participate in the group’s school day. If interested, please contact Jeannette Young at jyoung@capitolschool.com and visit us on our website to download an employment application at www.capitolschool.com. Here’s what two recent Bridging Disciplines Interns had to say about their experiences:
Completing my internship at the Capitol School of Austin was such a unique experience – I loved learning about the interdisciplinary and unique approach to child language development and education that is in place here. Working with the children and seeing them reach their language and developmental goals is so rewarding, and I loved getting to know the children and learning how to work with each of them. You get to see such a wide range of therapy and behavioral techniques that can be applied across all different areas of working with children, and this is helpful in any setting where you may work with children going forward.

Interning at CSA has taught me how to communicate more effectively with preschool students and keep them actively engaged during classroom activities. The experience here is truly exceptional, I get to learn directly from the classroom teacher and also help lead reading and language-stimulation activities.
