Position Title: Children’s Services Intern

Position Description: Learn about the dynamics of sexual abuse through interacting with children in the Activity Center, attending ongoing trainings, and create a working relationship with The CAC staff members.
Requirements: The Intern must be flexible and comfortable interacting with children of all ages. Have excellent personal relations skills, sensitivity to cultural and ethnic differences and respect for client confidentiality. They must be sensitive to the trauma of sexual abuse and use interpersonal skills to provide any needed support. Must successfully complete volunteer training including a criminal and CPS background check, take part in a personal interview and be 18 years of age or over. Please note that approval is not a guarantee.
Example of Job Duties:
I. Interact with children in the Children’s Services Area (Activity Center)
While in the Activity Center, you will have the opportunity to interact with children of various backgrounds and ages. Your role will be to ensure that the children feel safe and that their needs are provided for while at The Center, provide emotional comfort and support for the children when necessary and offer feedback to interviewers, caseworkers, police officers and therapists on an as needed basis, coordinate activities and art projects and assist as needed with on-going projects.
II. Attend ongoing training
Each month, at least two trainings are offered free of charge to CAC Interns. You will attend at least one training during your internship.
III. Observe Therapy Progress
You may have the opportunity to observe a specific child as they progress through their treatment.
IV. Work with staff in each department of the CAC
The CAC consists of six departments which work together to ensure that the trauma of sexual abuse is minimized for our clients. You will have the opportunity to see how each department works, how they interact with other departments and how the children and staff work together.
