Environment Texas is a state wide non-profit advocate for clean air, clean water, and open spaces. We believe there’s something special about Texas — something worth protecting and preserving for future generations. Whether it’s swimming at Barton Springs on a hot day, paddling down the Trinity River or hiking through Big Bend National Park, Texas’ natural wonders enrich our lives in countless ways. Yet the places we love and the environmental values so many of us share are too often threatened by powerful industries, shortsighted politicians and more. Defending our environment requires independent research, tough-minded advocacy and spirited grassroots action. That’s the idea behind Environment Texas. Together with thousands of supporters from all walks of life, we take the kind of action that wins tangible results for our environment. We’ve won lawsuits against four of the state’s biggest air polluters, stopped the sale of a mountain range by Big Bend, and helped win big investments in clean energy and water conservation at the Legislature. Internship Details
As an intern with us you’ll work side by side with our staff, learning the ropes of lobbying at the state Capitol, securing media attention, building powerful coalitions, and rallying the public to our cause. We know it won’t be easy because of big opposition from developers, giant agribusiness and other polluters, but we’re working to harness grassroots support and turn it into the political power we need to have a lasting direct impact on our environment.
This fall we will hire 2 interns for each of our current campaigns.
Our Clean Water Interns will work on projects like: (1) encouraging the adoption of city ordinances in favor of nature-based infrastructure and (2) researching reports of drinking water violations and holding utilities accountable.
The Global Warming Solutions Interns will help fight fracking, offshore drilling, and climate change in Texas.
Interns in our Clean Air program will help hold polluters accountable and advocate for clean forms of transportation.
Internships with Environment Texas are unpaid. Students may receive academic credit from their college or university. Interns can work part time (10-15 hrs/week) or full time (25-30 hrs/week). Due to COVID-19 all internships will be remote.
To Apply please submit your resume, as well as a short cover letter explaining your interest in the internship and helping us tackle environmental issues and create social change. Submit these documents via email to Anna Farrell-Sherman, Clean Water Associate, at afarrell-sherman@environmenttexas.org.
