| Workers Defense Project seeks Policy and Research Interns Fall 2015
WDP offers an opportunity for aspiring researchers to get hands on experience with community-based research. Interns will learn a wide range of research skills from policy analysis to data collection, and primary data research design. Interns will learn to use public information laws to collect critical data for organizing campaigns, as well as an introduction to corporate research. The intern will also learn basic organizing skills and support the organization’s policy campaigns at the local and state level. Internship opportunities are available in Austin and Dallas, Texas. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis. The final deadline to apply is August 15th. Internship Period: September 1- December 15. The Research and Policy intern will work with WDP’s Research Coordinator to conduct strategic research to advance our campaigns to win better working conditions for low wage workers. The intern will also assist with developing and testing primary data collection tools for documenting the working conditions of low-wage construction workers. Research and policy advocacy play a critical role in our successful model of policy change that has won better wages and safer working conditions for thousands of workers in Texas. Requirements:

AngelouEconomics: Economic Development Research Internship Position
Are you detail oriented? Do you enjoy digging for data? Is information or data design in your DNA?
AngelouEconomics (AE) is a highly-respected, economic development and site location consulting firm based in Austin, TX. Our dynamic team of consultants and researchers apply their extensive knowledge of Economics, Urban Planning, Business and Data Analysis to create customized strategies and analyses for public and private sector clients. This includes helping communities attract new businesses for expansion, conducting economic impact analyses, and developing comprehensive economic development strategic plans for communities (e.g. cities, counties, states).
Our team is currently looking for enthusiastic and creative individuals to join in the Fall 2015 Internship Program. This semester we are seeking candidates with experience and interest in data analysis and management to be involved in various research initiatives within the firm. The day-to-day and semester long tasks may include, but are not limited to:
- Gathering, analyzing, and updating economic and demographic data from various sources
- Conducting research into economic development indicators and trends
- Summarizing best practices in economic development from around the globe
- Shadowing staff members through client and internal meetings
- Contributing and managing content for the AE blog and social media
- Completing an end of term project, such as the development of a case study or research tool
AE prides itself on helping its interns apply their academic knowledge to real-world situations while providing professional feedback and other job-enhancing opportunities. Interns applying to the fall program can expect to experience all facets of our office and participate in a range of opportunities, including AE’s meetings and sharpening professional skills. As an AE intern, you’ll be able to participate in the perks of life at AE, including regular training sessions and webinars, professional development seminars, group lunches and other activities.
Interns are expected to work a minimum of 20 hours per week during the fall semester. AE is prepared to provide a stipend based upon the candidate’s experience.
Requirements:
- College graduate (BA or higher) or in process of earning your college degree
- Independent, self-directed worker
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to understand and organize data
- Internet research savvy
- Comfortable with phone interaction with clients
- Previous internship or related work experience a plus

2015-16 Institute on Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault’s (IDVSA) Research Fellows Program
With generous support from the Shield Ayres Foundation, the Institute on Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault’s (IDVSA) Research Fellows Program has up to five positions available for Fall 2015, with continuation in Spring 2016. Fellows work directly with program directors to contribute in the following areas of interpersonal violence:
- Mapping Human Trafficking Crimes
- Victim-Centered Notification in “Cold” Cases
- College Campus Sexual Assault Research
- Testifying as an Expert Witness in Family Violence, Stalking and Strangulation Cases
- Measuring Statewide Prevalence of Sexual Assault Crimes
Through critical inquiry and collaborations with community partners, Fellows integrate theoretical knowledge and research activities with community engagement. This program is up to one academic year long and Fellows commit to six hours a week. Fellows receive a small honorarium.
