Our Internship Opportunities:

Community Programs  – It’s Time Texas’ Community Programs Team seeks a practicum student/ intern interested in community programs that address health collaboratives, the social determinants of health, and community engagement. This student will be excited to assist in building a program from the ground up and utilize innovative technology to support community health programs. The ideal candidate is a proactive self-starter who is able to take initiative in identifying solutions to problems. He or she is comfortable with technology and troubleshooting issues as they arise, as well as a skilled communicator, confident in making cold calls and reaching out to potential partners in a warm and professional manner. One position is available with the Community Programs team.

Marketing and Communications – The Marketing department seeks interns with strong written and in-person communication skills who can think creatively and harness their specific skills to deepen engagement with current It’s Time Texas’ supporters and raise awareness of the cause. The purpose of these projects is not only to help improve It’s Time Texas’ impact on the community but also to provide valuable knowledge and experience to the intern’s education and career aspirations. The ideal candidate is a Sophomore, Junior, or Senior working toward a Bachelor’s’ degree in public relations, advertising, marketing, film, design, or a related field who is Public Relations savvy. A willingness to jump in and get things done is a must for a Marketing and Communications Intern. Familiarity with CMS, Adobe Creative Suite, and Canva as well as experience with photo and video editing is a plus.

Stronger Austin –  The Stronger Austin Program seeks interns who are aspiring leaders eager to make an impact in the community. Our team of interns will work closely with the Stronger Austin team to research, develop, implement, and promote this local initiative and are responsible for assisting with projects that vary in time-frame, scale, and orientation. We are seeking interns who are excited to work on a new initiative and are eager to learn, contribute, shape, and mold the work we do. The ideal candidate is a student working toward a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in public health, health education, exercise science, social work, marketing, communications or a related field. Stronger Austin Interns must have a basic knowledge of health promotion, fitness, and/or public health. Basic HTML, CSS, and database management and knowledge of health promotion theories and/or exercise science are a plus, but not required. Bilingual: Spanish & English is a plus.

What you will bring:

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and leverage resources accordingly
  • Ability and willingness to work independently and follow instructions with minimal supervision
  • Ability to stick to strict deadlines, often with tight turnarounds
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Suites
  • Attendance at mandatory New Intern Orientation
  • Fall interns will be required to work on Healthier Texas Summit projects the week of Summit. Supervisors should plan for this at the beginning of each fall semester.
  • Fall Interns will be required to work the Healthier Texas Summit, October 29th & 30th.

Compensation: Non-paid; College Credit Offered

At It’s Time Texas, our internship is Non-Paid; however, we do offer college credit for our interns who require an internship for their degree.

Remote Summer Internship with KidWorks

 

KidWorks Therapy Services was established in 1999 by Rebecca Pokluda with a vision to bring together a group of experienced, passionate Occupational, Speech, and Physical Therapists dedicated to family-centered, individualized care. KidWorks is committed to creating solutions that allow each child to create his/her own success in a fun, challenging, and safe environment. Our therapy process focuses on the emotional and social development within a relationship based model utilizing DIR/Floortime principles.

Summer Internships Available with the Children’s Defense Fund – Texas

Through the years, Children’s Defense Fund-Texas has been honored to welcome dozens of gifted college students as interns to advance the mission to provide all children with a Healthy Start, a Safe Start, a Fair Start, a Head Start and a Moral Start to life.

Our Austin office has an intentional, well-structured internship program where students get a firsthand experience with affecting policy. Interns have proven vital to CDF’s work, and we are pleased to play a role in creating the next generation of change-makers.

We have 4 intern openings for the summer semester that we would like to offer to students in 2020. The deadline to apply is April 15th. All interns are expected to work 20 hours per week, and will receive a stipend of $450 if funds are available. See below for more information.


Youth Civic Education and Engagement Intern

Job Description: The internship is based in Austin and provides general support for the CDF-TX Youth Civic Education and Engagement initiative. The intern works 20 hours/week supporting both our policy and organizing work to increase youth civic education and engagement. The youth civic engagement intern provides substantive policy research and reports and monitors legislative committees and the State Board of Education on improving youth civic engagement and education in Texas. Additionally, the intern assists with outreach to partners and school districts to support the prioritization of culturally sustaining civic education in Texas’ public school classrooms. The intern also supports outreach to young people statewide to support our high school voter registration campaign, as well as provides critical support in developing training curriculums to support young people’s knowledge of and engagement with state legislative and local civic processes.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Plans civic engagement opportunities with and for youth.

• Conducts research on public policy, media trends and other subjects as needed.

• Writes policy briefs and training material.

• Assists in the development and execution of special projects.

• Assist in maintaining CDF’s social media platforms.

Job Requirements:

• Ability to work effectively and calmly in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment and ability to multi-task.

• Strong organizational and execution skills.

• Attention to detail.

• Commitment to social advocacy and CDF’s mission to be a voice for all children.

Health Care Policy Intern

Job Description: The internship is based in Austin and provides general support for the CDF-TX Policy Department. The intern works 20 hours/week, and provides substantive research, compiles reports, monitors interim legislative committees and helps with the execution of advocacy-related activities, including story collection, public education, legislator visits, legislative briefings, special event planning, and social media work.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Produce policy research, memos, and training material

• Conduct research on state and federal healthcare policy, state lawmakers, media trends, and other subjects as needed

• Coordinate meetings with state lawmakers and their staff

• Collaborate with partners on coalition-wide activities

• Assist in the development and execution of special projects, such as the #SickofitTX Campaign

• Perform other division, department, and organization-wide projects as needed

• Assist in maintaining CDF’s social media platforms

Job Requirements:

• Ability to work effectively and calmly in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment

• Strong organizational and execution skills

• Attention to detail

Immigration Policy Intern

Job Description: The internship is based in Austin and provides general support for the CDF-TX Immigration Department. The intern works 10 hours/week, and provides substantive research, compiles reports, monitors immigration news and helps with the execution of advocacy-related activities, including story collection, public education, special event planning, newsletters, and social media work.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Policy research, briefs and training material

• Compiles bi-monthly immigration newsletters

• Conducts research on immigration policy, media trends, and other subjects as needed

• Assists in the development and execution of special projects

• Perform other division, department, and organization-wide special projects as needed and assigned

Job Requirements:

• Ability to work effectively and calmly in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment and ability to multi-task

• Strong organizational and execution skills

Communications & Policy Intern

Job Description: The internship is based in Austin and provides social media and communications support for the CDF-TX Policy Department. The intern works 20 hours/week, and will contribute to social media campaigns to promote the research, reports, legislative issues and advocacy-related activities of the organization. CDF-TX organizes advocate training/recruitment, story collection, public education, legislator visits, legislative briefings, and public policy events.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Supports CDF’s social media platforms

• Monitors blogs and social media accounts of allied groups to develop basic content knowledge about current policy issues related to health care and children’s health

• With supervision, plans, prepares, and executes social media campaigns (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) focused on current public policy issues and other subjects as needed

• Organizes weekly and monthly content calendars

• Assists in the development and execution of special projects and events

• Performs other division, department, and organization-wide special projects as needed and assigned

Job Requirements:

• Experience using social media for advocacy efforts, volunteer or paid

• Visual design skills, video skills a plus

• Ability to work effectively and calmly in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment and ability to multi-task

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Strong organizational and execution skills

• Attention to detail

• Commitment to social advocacy and CDF’s mission to be a voice for all children
