LifeWorks’ After Care Transition Services Intern

We have a Youth Resource Center at our East location that is a place for our clients to come and relax, work on resumes, access resources, apply for jobs, use social media and meet with their case managers. 

Our population is current/former foster youth ages 17.5-21, although some former clients still utilize our YRC, knowing it is a safe space for them. We work with our clients on accessing benefits, assisting financially if they are eligible, assist with college and financial aid applications, assist with employment/resume building, accessing area resources, crisis management, as well as general case management.

 We have had an intern in the past and found that having an intern is greatly beneficial to helping clients, case managers and running the Youth Resource Center.

 Our Youth Resource Center is open generally M-Th 10am-4pm. We don’t require that we have an intern to cover that entire time, but it would be best if their schedule allows them to be here at some point during those hours.

HealthStart Fall 2016 Internship

COMPANY OVERVIEW:
What do violence and obesity have in common? They are both public health crises that threaten the health of our communities. The answer to both these crises lies with educating the next generation so that children today learn the role and responsibility they have for their own health and that of their communities.

HealthStart is seeking an intern interested in helping us build a healthier future for all through early, science-based health education. Interns will help with a variety of tasks that may include media and community outreach, implementing our marketing/public relations strategy planning and executing fundraising events. In addition the selected intern(s) may have an opportunity to participate in hands on activities with children, data collection, and tasks that help us evaluate our effectiveness.

HealthStart is providing the blueprints for creating healthy communities through children’s science-based health education so that all children will learn how to be healthy from a young age. We have developed a comprehensive, robust health and science curriculum, Health Education for Youngsters! that includes 9 teachers guides, resource materials, parent information and more. The curriculum has been taught in 27 preschool and elementary schools in Central and South Texas to about 2,400 kids since 2010. HealthStart hopes to increase our organizational sustainability and put a communications road map in place with your help.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Health Start is currently seeking a part-time Fall 2016 intern with highly developed communications/ public relations/event planning skills who can work about 12-15 hours per week. You will be part of a team shaping HealthStart’s message through social media that may include daily Facebook and Twitter posts, quarterly newsletter production, donor correspondence and management, marketing campaigns designed to inform and attract education partners and related tasks. All of these experiences should be highly transferrable to a professional communications work environment.
Job responsibilities will include:

• Press Releases and helping raise HealthStart’s profile within our community
• Helping execute a media and public relations plan
• Working directly with HealthStart’s Development Committee
• Writing HealthStart’s Monthly Newsletter
• Writing press releases, articles for parenting and health magazines, and a blog
• Other public relaions and communications related tasks as assigned

Qualifications: 
Candidates for the position must have experience with public relations, communications, event planning, nonprofit development or related activity. Employment experience or a strong interest in social entrepreneurship, social marketing, health and wellness or early childhood education is preferred. Experience with digital arts or graphic design is a plus. Must be familiar with basic computer operations including MS WORD, EXCEL, and the Internet specifically social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, email clients, etc. In addition, candidates should have some or all of the following skills:

• A willingness to learn new things or new ways of doing things
• Ability to meet deadlines with little or no daily onsite supervision
• Attention to detail
• Excellent verbal and communication skills
• Enthusiasm about making a difference

Compensation

This is an unpaid internship.
