Girls Empowerment Network (GENaustin)- 2 Summer Internships Available

Pathfinder Intern

Purpose: Pathfinder Interns will assist in various aspects of delivering the Girls Empowerment Network’s Pathfinder Leadership Summit, a personal and professional leadership development program for young women in high school. Interns can expect to gain experience in leadership and mentoring. Interns will also have the opportunity to learn alongside program participants from experts in various fields of career development and leadership.

The Pathfinder Leadership Summit is a week-long summer program that helps young women uncover their strengths, develop skills like interviewing and public speaking, explore different industries and professions, and gain access to women leaders — all with the support of like-minded peers and college-aged role models.

Location: Training and programming will be held at GEN, 3000 S IH 35, Suite 400, 78704.

Length of Appointment and Time Commitment:

 Pathfinder Internship Training: Wednesday, June 7 – Friday, June 9.

 Participation in full Pathfinder Leadership Summit, held Monday, June 12- Saturday, June 17.

Key Responsibilities:

 Serve as mentor for a group of 5-8 high school students during the week-long Pathfinder Leadership Summit.

 Develop and lead team building activities and large group ice breakers that promotes bonding and connection among high school participants.

 Lead small group discussions, facilitate workshops as assigned, assist in coordinating projects, and answer questions/provide insight about college throughout the Pathfinder Leadership Summit.

Reports to: Project Manager

Compensation: This is a volunteer intern position.

Skills/Qualifications

 Applicants must be professional, responsible, team oriented self-starters who have a positive attitude.

 Applicants must currently be attending an institute of higher education or be a recent graduate.

 Must be committed to the goals/mission of Girls Empowerment Network.

 Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.

 Must have reliable transportation.

Direct Service Intern

Purpose: The Direct Service Intern will assist staff with co-facilitation of programs within the Girls Empowerment Network (GEN). They will work with a diverse group of girls in the Central Texas area and work in a team oriented environment. The Intern can expect to gain valuable group facilitation skills, learn outreach techniques, and gain knowledge about social-emotional programming..

Location: GEN’s main office, 3000 S IH 35, Suite 400, 78704

Key Responsibilities:

 Assist in the implementation of all GEN programs, including: clubGEN, 180, Girl Talk Workshops, GirlConnect, We Are Girls Conference, Pathfinder, and Summer Camps.

 Co-facilitate a minimum of 4 groups/week, including 180 and clubGEN groups.

 Conduct intake, assessment, and provide referrals to participants when appropriate.

 Oversee logistical details of groups, such as recruiting participants and making reminder calls to participants.

 Attend community events in representation of GEN.

 Conduct bi-weekly reports for groups.

Reports to: Program Coordinator

Length of Appointment: Semester

Time Commitment: Flexible, depending upon number of hours desired for credit. Minimum 10 hours/week maximum 32 hours/week. A few evening and weekend hours will be required.

Compensation: This is a volunteer intern position with college credit available.

Skills/Qualifications

 Applicants must be professional, creative, team oriented self-starters who have an eye for detail and a positive attitude.

 Applicants must have obtained or are actively pursuing a degree in counseling, social work, or related field.

 Must be committed to the goals/mission of GEN and social justice.

 Must have reliable transportation.

 Must be available to run afterschool programs on some weekdays.

Side by Side Kids- 2 Summer Internship Positions Available

Job Title: Communication and Media Intern

Purpose of the Position:

● Effectively keep the families of the children involved in the afterschool informed of the events of the month

● Effectively keep our sponsors and involved churches informed of what the Side By Side Kids ministries are doing

● Raise awareness and attract new people to Side By Side Kids through online content

Specific Tasks or Duties:

● Take and collect photographs of kids and volunteers at events

● Compose articles and stories for publications

● Layout and design monthly bulletins and newsletters

● Maintain and update the Side By Side Kids blog weekly with entries, pictures, graphics, etc

● Collaborate with the Community Relations Coordinator on the design and dispersion of development media

● Maintain and update Facebook and Instagram account five times per week

● Discover viable social media platforms for Side by Side Kids

● Strengthen SBSK presence on Twitter and LinkedIn

Skills:

● Excellent writing and interpersonal communication skills required

● Ability to construct, compile and condense articles into meaningful summaries

● Creativity with creating content and discovering solutions

● Strong understanding of social media, marketing, and branding

Preferred Qualities

● Christ-follower

● Background in Journalism, Business, Public Relations, or other related discipline

● Skills with photography and videography

● Highly organized

● Self starter

● Written and Spoken knowledge of English and Spanish

Job Title: Development Intern

Purpose of the Position

● Strengthen and support donor relationships

● Effectively keep our sponsors and involved churches informed

● Raise awareness and attract new donors to Side By Side Kids through online content

● Provide support and assistance in the distribution of development materials

● Prepare for upcoming fundraising events

Specific Tasks or Duties:

● Organize and execute high-quality thank-you cards for donors within 1-week of each gift

● Assist in organizing sponsorships for fundraising events

● Compose engaging articles and stories for development publications such as posts, newsletters, blogs and appeals

● Segment and engage with donors on the newsletter list

● Support Social Media Coordinator with development updates for social media each week

● Pick-up development and marketing materials to distribute

Skills & Competencies Needed:

● Good writing and interpersonal communication skills required

● Ability to convey information effectively to our donor community

● Go-getter with an ability to work on projects and tasks independently

● Highly organized with an ability to prioritize time-sensitive tasks

● Strong relationship-builder and story-teller for diverse audiences

● Expert in the use of Microsoft Office and Outlook

Preferred Qualities

● Christ-follower

● Working-knowledge of donor database or administrative organization (ex. Network For Good, Google Drive)

● Background in Fundraising, Administration, Communication or other related discipline

Dress for Success Internships Summer/Fall 2017

The mission of Dress for Success is to empower women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire and development tools to help them thrive in work and in life.

All internships are unpaid, but are very flexible and students can receive class credit if college approves. Interns can work as few as four hours per week and as many as 16 hours per week with at least a one semester commitment.

Career Opportunities

Ability to meet contacts from 100+ different nonprofit or government in the Austin area.
Ability to access 140 Dress for Success Affiliates all over the world for other internship and employment opportunities.
Gain experience in the nonprofit arena by doing project management, event planning, client education, analysis of client data, building relationships with other nonprofits, and assist with volunteer management.
Meet other women in the community who hold an array of professional positions with small businesses and large corporations.
Gain customer service experience through interaction with clients, referral agencies, and volunteers.

Internship Opportunities:

Inventory Manager

Manage influx of donations and sort, purge, merchandize, and organize inventory at the Dress for Success Austin boutique.
Train volunteers on inventory management.
Manage community groups with volunteer tasks.
Create more efficient ways of managing inventory.
Update documents relating to inventory management including inventory lists and instructions for purging days.
Notify staff when inventory is needed.
Job Searching Program Assistant

Support the Job Searching Program Coordinator to organize and facilitate the program prior to, during and after each session and throughout the cohort of classes.
Assist with preparation of each class session including arranging the room for the most conducive learning environment.
Assist clients during the classes by being present to answer questions, help with the computers and other duties as assigned.
After each class session, input demographic into a database.
Keep track of each client’s file to insure all required data is complete and accurate.
As needed and requested by Coordinator, communicate with various entities in the community to assist with arranging speakers, mentors, supplies, and educational materials as needed.
As the close of each cohort of classes, assist the Coordinator with writing and analyzing reports.
Be available to assist with other Dress for Success Austin programs as needed.
Client Services Assistant

Provide front office continuity for clients.
Greet clients and assist them with paperwork.
Pair clients with a volunteer image consultant or volunteer career center advocate.
Educate clients about additional Dress for Success Austin programs and services.
Answer phones and field public inquiries.
Build relationships with referral agencies and communicate our policies and procedures to caseworkers.
Assist with client data analysis.
Conduct follow-up calls to clients and determine what additional services are needed.
Community Outreach Assistant

Assist Community Outreach Coordinator with the following duties:

Communication and education to partner agencies regarding Dress for Success Austin services and updating database with partner agency contacts.
Attend occasional community events to represent Dress for Success Austin.
Help coordinate events sponsored by businesses in the community and attend them as needed.
Social media posts on all platforms including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn.
