Graphic Design & Front-End Development Internships with UT System Population Health

GRAPHIC DESIGN INTERN

Accepting for Fall 20

The UT System Population Health Scholars Program is seeking graduate or undergraduate students to work with our senior designer on a variety of design projects, including designing print materials, producing web-based visualizations, editing photography, and potentially producing animated graphics as well.

Students may help with projects including the Texas Collaborative for Healthy Mothers & Babies, Texas Safe Babies, the Texas Health Improvement Network (THIN), Healthier Texas, and the Texas Child MentalHealth Care Consortium

  • Applicants should have strong design skills, with illustration skills a very significant plus.
  • Undergraduates are welcome to apply, but should have exceptionally strong ability.

Location: UT System Administration Building, 210 West 7th Street, Austin TX. Onsite parking and gym access provided. Remote options may be available.

Salary: $15-20/hr depending on experience

FRONT-END DEVELOPMENT INTERN

Accepting for Fall 20

The UT System Population Health Scholars Program is seeking graduate or undergraduate students to work with our senior UX designer on our websites.

Students may help with projects including the Texas Child Mental Health Care Consortium, Texas Safe Babies,etc.

Responsibilities

  • Creating HTML pages from provided UI designs.
  • Applying accessibility standards to existing websites.
  • Prototyping interactions & custom visualizations.

Qualifications

  • Basic understanding of UI/UX design principles and ability to work with design software such as Adobe Suite, Figma or Sketch.
  • Experience working with each of HTML5, CSS3 and modern JavaScript.
  • Strong understanding of UI, cross-platform / cross-browser compatibility, general web functions and standards.
  • Ability and interest to learn new technologies and Javascript libraries related to data visualization.
  • Must have prior front-end work samples.

Salary: $18-25/hr depending on experience

Remote Internships Available with Refugee Services of Texas

OUR MISSION

Guided by the principles of human compassion and dignity, Refugee Services of Texas welcomes refugees, immigrants, and other displaced peoples and supports them in integrating and thriving in their new communities.

WE WORK ACROSS TEXAS

Founded in 1978, Refugee Services of Texas (RST) is a social-service agency dedicated to providing assistance to refugees and other displaced persons fleeing persecution based on race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership in a particular social group – as well as to the communities that welcome them. RST provides services to hundreds of refugees, asylees, survivors of human trafficking, and related vulnerable populations from over 30 different countries of origin each year. Originating in Dallas, RST now has service centers in Amarillo, Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston and Rio Grande Valley.

MARKING & FUNDRASING INTERNSHIP – FALL 2020

RST’s development team, including development interns, is responsible for raising support, awareness and funding for the agency and those we serve through the creation of meaningful, mission-focused content. Internships are meant to be individualized, challenging, and rewarding.
Essential skills:
  • Demonstrated interest in issues pertaining to refugees, human trafficking, displaced populations, and/or human rights;
  • Positive attitude;
  • Ability to work as a team, and also to take initiative by generating new ideas and running with them;
  • Great communication skills, including ability to give and receive constructive feedback; and
  • Attention to detail.
After developing foundational knowledge on relevant immigration and human rights issues, development interns may assist RST staff members in the following areas:
  • Assist with the development of the agency-wide Speakers Bureau by conducting interviews, organizing into narratives able to be used for marketing, and identifying prospective Speakers Bureau members;
  • Contribute to virtual event planning through seeking sponsorships and raffle prizes from corporations, foundations and community organizations;
  • Promote events by identifying free and low-cost advertising outlets and posting accordingly;
  • Facilitate the creation of community partnerships through prospecting potential partners and connecting relevant team members; and
  • Gather information and make recommendations related to RST’s monitoring and evaluation practices.
Additional information:
  • We expect interns to work 10 – 15 hours a week, but we are flexible.
  • Internships are unpaid.

Remote Research Assistantships Available with the Steve Hicks School of Social Work

Research Assistantship Available

Social Work Professor Dr. Esther Calzada is leading a research study on the effects of a school-based intervention for parents of preschool and Kindergarten children.

Research Assistants will be responsible for recruitment and assessments of parents and teachers of preschool and Kindergarten students. All data collection activities will be conducted remotely.

Research Assistants are expected to work 10 hours per week. This position is unpaid.
