Texas Memorial Museum Intern – Spring 21

About Texas Memorial Museum

In the early 1930s, James E. Pearce, The University of Texas at Austin Chair of Anthropology, later named the museum’s first director, and A. Garland Adair, department historian for the Texas American Legion, joined forces to establish a state museum. They wanted the museum to contribute to the conservation of the historic treasures of Texas and also to the educational system of the state. With this joint effort, the Texas Memorial Museum (TMM) was born.

More information on the Texas Memorial Museum can be found here!

Internship Information

The internship opportunity begins in January 2021, and will coincide with the Museum’s re-opening. This opportunity is for the Spring 2021 semester.

This internship is anticipated to be a hybrid model, including in-person work, and the intern will therefore be required to be on-site following all UT Austin COVID-19 safety guidelines including mandatory face coverings. The experience will have both in-person and remote components.

In-person internship responsibilities:

  • The intern will assist with exhibit and education programming needs:
    • create videos for TMM’s social media accounts and virtual events
    • organize and catalog the museum’s education collection

Remote internship responsibilities:

  • The intern will research and write digital education content (including learning resources for TMM’s new exhibit and articles for email newsletters)

If conditions prevent TMM from reopening and/or require the museum to close temporarily in the spring, the student will work remotely for the semester. TMM’s operating schedule in 2021 will be Tuesday-Saturday 9 am- 5pm.

How to Apply

Students wishing to apply should email Pamela Owen with a letter of interest, resume, and their schedule of availability for working at the museum for the on-site component of the internship.
