About Refugee Services of Texas

Guided by the principles of human compassion and dignity, Refugee Services of Texas welcomes refugees, immigrants, and other displaced peoples and supports them in integrating and thriving in their new communities.

Founded in 1978, Refugee Services of Texas (RST) is a social-service agency dedicated to providing assistance to refugees and other displaced persons fleeing persecution based on race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership in a particular social group – as well as to the communities that welcome them. RST provides services to hundreds of refugees, asylees, survivors of human trafficking, and related vulnerable populations from over 30 different countries of origin each year. Originating in Dallas, RST now has service centers in Amarillo, Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston and Rio Grande Valley.



Austin Internship Opportunities

ASYLUM SEEKER ASSISTANCE PROGRAM INTERNSHIP(S)

RST is seeking Undergraduate and/or Master’s-Level Interns to assist with their Asylum Seeker Assistance Program (ASAP). The intern will help support the ASAP Case Managers with day-to-day duties that include: contacting clients (Asylum Seekers), helping the case manager through their intake process, also include data entry and file preparation, conduct and assist signing the contract agreement and the donations process to the needy families. Click here to read more.


CASH AND MEDICAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM INTERNSHIP(S)

RST is seeking Undergraduate and/or Master’s-Level Interns to assist with their Cash and Medical Assistance (CMA) Program. The CMA internship will be project based, both allowing the intern to utilize computer skill, and gain an understanding of the U.S. Refugee Program and the various domestic and international policies influencing refugee resettlement. Click here to read more.

Dallas Internship Opportunities

VIDEOGRAPHY INTERNSHIP

The videography intern will work with RST’s Development Team to host interviews with stakeholders in the resettlement community including refugees, trafficking survivors, asylum seekers and other displaced persons, as well as those who partner with them including staff, donors and volunteers. Due to the in-person nature of this role, interns must be physically located within DFW and agree to adhere to safety measures including masks and social distancing during the course of their position with RST. Click here to learn more.


FAITH COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT INTERNSHIP

The intern will engage with the faith community to engage faith members in community and resource mobilization, send out weekly newsletters to volunteers and other community members, and introduce different faith groups to RST’s mission and work, including but not limited to local and regional churches, mosques, synagogues, temples and faith orientated organizations. Click here to learn more.

REFUGEE CASH ASSISTANCE

Refugee Services of Texas in Dallas is seeking an organized and culturally sensitive intern to join its dynamic team either part-time or full-time in its Dallas office. A Refugee Cash Assistance (RCA) intern works with clients who have been in the U.S. for less than eight months and are eligible to receive cash assistance. ADULT EDUCATION ORIENTATION

Assist with Cultural Orientation workshops and English as a Second Language classes. Our CO Workshops provide refugees with an opportunity to learn about life in America, what to expect, and to also meet with other refugees experiencing the ups and downs of refugee resettlement. CASE AID

The Dallas office is looking to work with a group of Case Aid Interns interested in learning about the United States Reception and Placement program and having an opportunity to directly work with and enhance our local resettlement program. Click here to learn more.


VOLUNTEER MANAGEMENT INTERN

Learn the tools of effective volunteer management as a Volunteer Coordination Intern. Interns will help plan events, come up with new opportunities for volunteers, give presentations, and track donations. Professionalism, organization, and communication skills are a must. Click here to read more.


SOCIAL ADJUSTMENT SERVICES

Interns will work closely with Social Adjustment Services Case Managers to ensure clients have access to medical services and care. Communicate with city and state agencies to coordinate housing and medical services, provide transportation, and help mentor a family or individual. Human Rights Clinic Internship at UT School of Law – Spring 21

About the Human Rights Clinic

The Human Rights Clinic is a course in the School of Law’s Experiential Education section. Law students and other graduate students who take the Human Rights Clinic advocate on behalf of victims of human rights abuses. They work on a variety of projects. Internship Information

The Human Rights Clinic seeks volunteer interns for the coming semester – Spring 2021

We are seeking a few unpaid interns to assist the students with their projects. In the past, interns have helped with tasks like making copies, scanning, translating documents, assembling materials for meetings, or assisting with mailing campaigns. Spanish language skills are a plus, but are not required.

The hours are very flexible, and the amount of time required varies from week to week. Some work must be done here at the law school, but often an intern’s work can be done remotely from home or from outside of the law school.

Texas Civil Rights Project – Intake Specialist Internship for Spring 2021

About the Texas Civil Rights Project

At Texas Civil Rights Project, we are Texas lawyers for Texas communities, boldly serving the movement for equality and justice in and out of the courts. We use our tools of litigation and legal advocacy to protect and advance the civil rights of everyone in Texas and we partner with communities across the state to serve the rising movement for social justice.

Our efforts have helped countless low-income and otherwise marginalized Texans and have widely advanced equality and justice. Today—with dozens of high-caliber attorneys and professionals around the state and an extensive network of pro bono counsel and community allies—TCRP is among the most influential civil rights organizations in Texas.

TCRP has proudly hosted BDP students for years in formal/for-credit, and informal/non-credit internships and volunteer opportunities. Bridging Discipline students, and non-credit-seeking students who are able to commit to a weekly schedule of at least 10 hours per week, are highly encouraged to apply for this position.

TCRP’s public intake system receives requests for legal assistance from across the state, and beyond, on a wide variety of legal issues. Intake Specialist Interns work closely with our Intake Coordinator to determine which matters are best suited for our organization, and which matters might be better suited to refer to other resources.

Primary Roles & Responsibilities of the Intake Specialist Intern

  • Conduct brief informal interviews with TCRP’s potential clients by phone;
  • Refer potential clients to appropriate resources;
  • Maintain potential-client matters with our intake management system;
  • Schedule and conduct formal initial intake interviews by phone;
  • Process intake-related mail, and work on other case or investigation-related projects, and inter-departmental projects, as available or assigned.

COVID-19

Please note that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all of our offices are closed through at least April, 2021. All of our staff, including interns, are working remotely.
