Sanctuary Yoga and the Amala Foundation are seeking a highly motivated intern. (Sanctuaryyogaaustin.com, amalafoundation.org) 

Sanctuary Yoga is the only non-profit  yoga studio in Austin that offers an intimate space devoted to the deepening and upliftment of humanity. All proceeds from Sanctuary Yoga support the youth programs of the Amala Foundation, a 501c(3) that unites youth from all walks of life and inspires them to grow as individuals and as leaders in service to humanity. 

This opportunity offers an unforgettable internship experience for someone interested in learning about all aspects of running a small organization.  It offers students a hands-on immersion in management, administration, public relations, programming, marketing, finances, operations, customer service and small business administration as well as insight into nonprofit management. 

Skills required:

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Great interpersonal skills, customer service and a love of dealing with the public
  • Creativity, initiative and the ability to gracefully introduce yourself to new people

  • Available to work hours that meet the general operational needs of the studio

Internship with B*Tru Arts

B*Tru Arts: Nonprofit Leadership & Management Internship

B*Tru Arts, a local non-profit performing arts organization is looking for a talented, motivated and hardworking Nonprofit Leadership & Management Intern. Intern will work directly with the company’s Founder and Producing Artistic Director.The ideal candidate must be able to manage multiple assignments and shifting priorities with minimal supervision to meet deadlines. In return, they will have the opportunity to work closely with senior management and earn real-world experience through high-impact projects.

Nonprofit Leadership & Management

  • Research and identify business development opportunities
  • Assist with analysis of current operations, procedures, company structure and systems
  • Collaborate with senior staff to determine and implement best management practices
  • Budgeting preparing financial statements
  • Fundraising and grantwriting
  • Board and staff development and management
  • Developing relationships with key community partners
  • Researching and maintaining data for nonprofit operations

Skills & Experience 

  • Microsoft Office experience
  • QuickBooks knowledge preferred
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to work independently
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and budget
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Position Details

  • Part-time Internship: 10-12 hours/week
  • Timeframe and Schedule: Flexible; attend occasional evening meetings
  • The internship is unpaid, but there will be opportunities for networking and professional development

What We Do

B*Tru Arts is a multi-cultural, nonprofit, performance production company that offers training and services to the public and to local artists, with a focus on dance, acting, visual arts and film. The Academy X*TRA is an after-school performing arts program intended to enrich the curriculum of local schools (both public and private) by providing affordable, pre-professional classes in dance, acting and visual arts for students who are looking to explore and develop their creative and expressive selves.Through the Youth Pre-Professional Performing Arts Program, B*Tru Arts educates and prepares young artists for professional careers in the performing arts through classes, showcase performances and audition opportunities. The B*Tru Arts Professional Talent Management division represents local performers of all ages with a variety of skill sets, including actors, dancers, musicians, DJs, voice actors and comedians. Finally, B*Tru Arts Production Services provide affordable photography,videography, performance, choreography and screenwriting services to the community.

Through B*Tru Arts general assistance programs, we work with local artists to raise awareness of current global, communal and social issues by experimenting with visual, physical and spiritual art through dance, theater and film. We support artists and art that helps awaken human consciousness and significantly adds to the efforts of preserving artistic culture in Austin, Texas.

Event Planning Internship

Ten Thousand Villages of Austin is a 501(c)(3) fair trade retailer of artisan-crafted works from across the globe. A founding member of the World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO), Ten Thousand Villages sees fair trade as an alternative approach to conventional international trade. We establish long-term relationships in places where skilled artisans are under- or unemployed, and lack other opportunities for income.

Featuring products from more than 130 artisan groups in 38 countries, we are part of a network of over 70+ retail outlets throughout the United States selling Ten Thousand Villages products. As one of the world’s oldest and largest fair trade organizations, Ten Thousand Villages has spent more than 60 years cultivating trading relationships in which artisans receive a fair price for their work and consumers have access to distinctive handcrafted items.

We are currently looking for an Intern who is passionate about Fair Trade, our mission, and is interested in helping our Austin store reach “the next level”! This person will help us with our events big and small, by completing tasks associated with our events; increasing their scope in the Austin community; polishing and streamlining events to make them more effective; and seeking out new opportunities to expand our events.

This position is perfect for any student looking to gain more hands-on experience in event planning, marketing and fundraising, or desiring insight into non-profit management!

Intern Responsibilities

  • Volunteer 10-15 hours per week (up to 20 hours/week around key event dates)
  • Assist with the planning and strategizing of our store’s fair trade events, with a major focus on our International Women’s Day celebration in early March and World Fair Trade Day in early May
  • Help to develop in-store community events program, including workshops and networking events
  • Create e-mailouts, signage, and forms related to events
  • Foster relationships with past and future event participants and partners through several channels
  • Be proactive in updating, communicating and completing tasks associated with events
  • Follow checklists and ensure tasks are completed on time
  • Participate in event team meetings, and work collaboratively to achieve goals
  • Customer service in store when needed, including verbally marketing events to customers
  • Be an assertive advocate for Ten Thousand Villages of Austin inside and outside the store

Preferred Skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency using Dropbox and Google Drive/Mail/Calendar, and able to learn new software quickly
  • Comfortable juggling multiple tasks/projects and able to work efficiently to meet deadlines
  • Enjoys using and understands Social Media. Graphic design experience a plus, but not essential
  • Assertive, proactive, and able to take initiative and step outside comfort zone to learn new skills
  • Highly organized and cooperative work style

Social Media Marketing Internship – Spring 2016

Internship Responsibilities:

Social Media (50%)

  • Work with the Marketing Committee and Volunteer Coordinator to manage TTV-Austin’s social media presence, using our Editorial Calendar and Hootsuite to post items about our store, Fair Trade, and events across our Facebook and Twitter profiles
  • Create monthly social media reports and monitor activity and impact of posts
  • Develop and implement creative techniques to increase reach and engagement and build community
  • Create and implement innovative ways to utilize social media as a means to attract potential customers and volunteers, and as an educational tool to inform the public on Fair Trade
  • Cover local Fair Trade events on social media, and monitor Google Alerts for global fair-trade events and news
  • Live-tweet major events in the store and fair trade community

Customer Service (15%)

  • Spend 1-2 hours a week on our sales floor, engaging customers and familiarizing yourself with TTV products
  • Watch the “New Item Videos” every month and work with the Inventory Manager to tell those stories in store
  • Verbally market upcoming events to customers

Marketing (35%)

  • Create and post promotional images/materials for major events, sales and initiatives
  • Create event pages on Facebook, Do512, and other online calendars; promote events through social media
  • Research and write about artisan groups that TTV works with on social media outlets
  • Assist with planning and promoting of Fair Trade events in Austin and surrounding communities
  • Develop partnerships with other entities that enhance our sales, and review pop-up sale opportunities

Preferred Skills

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, electronic)
  • Enjoys using Social Media – Facebook and Twitter experience essential
  • Basic-Intermediate Graphic Design skills
  • Marketing and/or Customer Service experience preferred
  • Able to take initiative and step outside comfort zone to learn
