Texas Advocacy Project Summer Internship

Development Internship – Summer 2016

Texas Advocacy Project is a non-profit organization providing free legal services to victims of domestic and dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking throughout Texas.

Texas Advocacy Project is looking for an to assist the development team with preparing for fundraising events and campaigns. The intern will be assisting with major development events such as our Black & White Ball and Teen Ambassadors of Hope Campaign. This internship will provide opportunities to build important skills surrounding non-profit development and event planning.

Requirements:

•Strong written and verbal communication skills

•Self-motivated individual who is able to work independently and takes initiative

•Commitment to the values of Texas Advocacy Project

•Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

•Able to work 10-15 hours a week

Preferred qualifications:

•Previous non-profit development experience

•Experience with Greater Giving or other donation databases

•Knowledge of social media platforms and content marketing

Responsibilities:

The intern will work the Development Team to:

•Assist in the planning and preparation of special events

•Conduct individual donor research, including prospect research

•Track and enter fundraising information into database

•Draft and deliver donor communications materials

•Assist with solicitations to diverse audiences

•Additional tasks as assigned

This internship is unpaid, however college credit is available upon request. This internship will provide valuable knowledge of non-profit operations, how to fundraise, and event coordination.

Texas Medical Center Summer Internship

 Proposed start date: June 6, 2016

Proposed End date: August 12, 2016

Hours: Full-time. This is an unpaid position in the Texas Medical Center in Houston, TX. Research credit may be obtained according to your school’s policies.

What:

  Help coordinate development of campaigns targeting patients and physicians to improve HIV screening and HCV screening in healthcare settings

  Assist with survey and interview development and administer to participants

  Assist with data collection and preparation for data analysis

  Help design final campaigns (e.g., print, video, mobile phone-based)

  Participate in all aspects of the research project including:

  • Assisting with Institutional Review Board protocols for research approval
  • Provide research updates at weekly research team meetings
  • Conduct literature searches and reviews
  • Draft sections for grants or manuscripts
  • Serve as the team liaison with the research sites, research staff, consultants, and outside collaborators

Details:

  Excellent communication skills required – both written and oral

  Exceptional organizational skills required

  Must be able to multi-task in a fast-paced academic research environment

  High school diploma required

  Vehicle required; research site clinics are ~ 10-15 miles away from Texas Medical Center in Houston, TX

Interfaith Action of Central Texas Summer Internships

iACT is seeking four interns for our two service programs for summer 2016 starting from June 13 until August 5.

Refugee Program:

  • Two interns are needed for 15-20 hours a week to assist with the 7- week iLearn Youth Summer Program. This is a part of iACT for Refugees to help newly arrived refugee children learn English and school skills in preparation for their first years of school in Austin.

Applicants must be available for 7 weeks, 8:30 am-12:30 pm Monday through Thursday at a downtown location. Must be well organized, enjoy working with children, and be a natural leader with humor and cultural sensitivity to work with newly arrived refugees 6-18. Proficiency in a refugee language (Arabic, Pashtu, Swahili or French) desirable.

  • One intern is needed for 15-20 hours a week to shoot photos and videos of the iLearn Youth Summer Program as well as the adult ESL program and create a promotional video for the Refugee Program. Applicants with experience in videography preferred.

Hands on Housing

  • A client services intern is needed for the Hands on Housing program, a home repair program for low income home owners unable to afford repairs on their homes. The position will include office work as well as client visits and repair-event logistics and participation.

The ideal applicant will be hardworking, independent, and possess strong communication, organization and time-management skills. Previous experience in client services and bilingual Spanish-English are both preferred, but not required. Having personal transportation is needed. Work hours will include some weekends when repair events are held.
