| DESCRIPTION
The American Diabetes Association’s Central Texas office announces the availability of two exciting internships – These interns will work directly with the Program/Event Managers for the selected program/event and gain valuable skills while assisting with program/event coordination, program/event marketing, promotion, creative planning, logistics, and implementation. Both of these unpaid internships can provide school credit, portfolio- building experience, a flexible schedule and valuable experience in the non-profit industry. Candidates must be energetic, team players, results-oriented and dedicated to the achievement of personal and team goals. These internships requires candidates with confidence in interpersonal communication, comfort with both verbal and written communication and a passion for making a difference in the lives of people affected by diabetes. The Capital Area Food Bank of Texas is the largest hunger-relief charity in Central Texas.
COMMUNITY RELATIONS INTERN
Internship Description:
The Capital Area Food Bank Community Relations Intern will provide key support to the Community Relations team and gain valuable community event and volunteer management skills.
Primary Internship Responsibilities:
- Assist the Community Relations team by meeting and working with community event groups and volunteers.
- Assist with recruitment of volunteers, donors and community groups for engagement with CAFB at informational fairs and community events.
- Represent CAFB at external community events and provide tours to groups as needed.
- Maintain volunteer lobby and sign-in area including nametags, time sheets and binders.
- Assist with acknowledgment and recognition of event partners, volunteers and sponsors.
- Manage inventory of Community Relations team supplies; conduct periodic inventory and recommend replacement as needed.
- Assist with data collection and management including volunteer and community event information.
- Work closely with the marketing team to coordinate needs for event and volunteer support.
- Maintain community event calendar and board in volunteer lobby.
Internship Qualifications:
The CAFB Community Events Department is looking to appoint a motivated, organized, detail-oriented intern with an interest in project management and a desire to work in a fast paced agency environment. The candidate should have the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. A sense of humor and humility are essential. Additionally, the ideal candidate will:
- be professional
- be outgoing, confident and personable
- have exceptional communication skills
- be able to interact with personnel at all levels of the organization
- be organized and detail-oriented
- be able to multi-task
- demonstrate proficiency with Microsoft Office products
- be open to working some evening and/or weekend events

Time Commitment: 20-30/week

Fall Internship at Worker’s Defense Project
ABOUT WORKERS DEFENSE PROJECT:
Created in 2002, WDP is a statewide, membership-based organization devoted to workers’ rights and advocacy, chiefly aiming to build power among Texas construction workers. Its mission – to empower low-income workers to achieve fair employment through education, direct services, organizing and strategic partnerships – is accomplished through a network of dedicated staff, volunteers and members.
WDP is one of the few organizations in Texas focused on addressing workplace abuse faced by low-wage laborers. Among the most established worker centers in the South, and a leader in the national movement of worker centers fighting for fair conditions for working people, WDP has won numerous awards for its cutting-edge achievements within one of the country’s most difficult climates for workers.
Each year, WDP serves over 2,500 workers through offices in Austin and Dallas by way of various social-service and organizing programs. WDP concentrates its efforts on winning better work conditions in the construction industry, which is among the most powerful special interest groups in Texas and employs over 900,000 workers statewide, half of whom are undocumented.
