Internship with Children of All Nations

Children of All Nations is a 501(c)3 child welfare organization based in Austin, Texas. We specialize in connecting orphans throughout the world with their forever families through international adoption.

We are currently looking for a part-time intern for the Summer who is preferably fluent in French to provide support to the case managers of our African and Haitian adoption programs. Responsibilities include: Calling French-speaking staff, government officials, and orphanages in foreign countries to provide program support; translation of French documents to English and vice versa; assisting case managers as necessary to advocate for the adoption of orphaned children abroad. Students should preferably be a junior or senior in college and preferred candidates will have experience studying abroad or working/communicating with people from other countries. If the student is not a French-speaker, other tasks as assigned will apply.

In addition to the above responsibilities, the intern may also work with the Development Specialist to contact the foreign governments of African countries to explore the possibility of opening adoption or humanitarian aid programs there, researching the programs’ potential for success, help to develop orphan care programs worldwide, and other tasks as assigned. The intern should be available part-time on weekdays between 8:30 am and 4 pm and the schedule is flexible depending on your class schedule.

East Side Compost Pedallers Summer Internships

The East Side Compost Pedallers is a 100% bike-powered compost recycling program that collects compostables from east side homes and businesses and pedals them directly to nearby urban farms and community gardens to grow more local food for our community.  Our mission is to build a more vibrant Austin community by reducing waste, strengthening our local food system, and re-connecting neighbors to each other and the places that they live through more sustainable practices. All without burning a single drop of fossil fuel!

Skillpoint Alliance Seeks Summer STEM Program Facilitator

Skillpoint Alliance is a 501(c)3 social enterprise that builds partnerships among industry, education and the community, leading to college and career success for Central Texans, while meeting employers’ needs for a qualified workforce.

Purpose of Position in Skillpoint Alliance

Under the supervision of the Velocity Coordinator, the Summer STEM Program Facilitator, supports the planning and execution of Velocity Prep, which engages groups of 20 high school students in four weeks of project-based professional work with an industry client. Currently planned projects include but are not limited to:

  • APPSoup, which asks students to design and develop a mobile application focused on a theme.
  • ECOAudit, which asks students to develop a business plan for optimizing cost savings and sustainability by conducting a comprehensive water, waste and energy audit on a commercial campus.
  • GAMEOn!, which asks students to design and develop web-based video games focused on a theme.
  • NANOTech, which asks students to leverage nanotechnology to investigate on-site water quality issues and design a viable, water purification solution for households in the “Las Lomitas” Colonia in Travis County.
  • POWERUp, which asks students to design a “MicroGrid System for the Texas Colonias,” capable of producing reliable, off-grid energy for 15 homes along the Texas-Mexico border.
  • DESIGNStudio, which asks students to invent innovative solutions to a specific civil engineering and sustainable design challenge. Use CAD, 3D-printing and prototyping, and conduct research to develop a final design and budget planning document for a client.

Position Description

The Summer STEM Program Facilitator collaborates with the Velocity Coordinator and STEM Programs Coordinator to ensure Velocity Prep program delivery.  This position facilitates student work to assure project completion, supervising students at their work site.  In turn, the Program Facilitator will gain valuable experience by working directly with an industry client, serving as project manager for a large group and preparing a project summary report.

Required Skills

  • Project management skills (effective and efficient communication is critical)
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Some experience working with youth
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and PowerPoint

Required Education/Experience

  • Currently pursuing or completed a Bachelor of Arts, Science or Masters in a relevant subject area.

Preferred/Additional Skills

  • Knowledge of/interest in project topics including solar technology, game design, mobile apps development, energy efficiency, sustainable design,
  • Familiarity with the development of a business plan, consulting services
  • Interest in youth/education, nonprofits
  • Previous project management experience (e.g. student organization leadership)
  • Familiarity using a computer assisted drawing (CAD) program, (e.g., Autodesk, Google SketchUp, Adobe)
  • Programming Experience (e.g., Flash, Java, HTML5, Unity)
  • Possess basic level Photo, Audio and Video editing skills.
