Workshop Descriptions

Assignments & Gradebook in Canvas

This session will cover the workflow of assignment creation, student submission, instructor grading and student view of instructor’s feedback, and highlight ideas on effective online/digital assignments. We will present an overview of the Gradebook and discuss the advantages of using grading tools such as Rubrics and SpeedGrader. Please bring your laptop as these workshops will be task-based.

Canvas Crash Course

Get an early start on creating your Canvas course(s). In 50 minutes, we can teach you the basics, plus some helpful tips to save you time while setting up your course. Please bring your laptop as these workshops will be task-based.

Deeper Dive into Course Design in Canvas

This course design workshop will cover best practices in Canvas for organizing and presenting content to your students. Specifically, the relationships between your course’s Home Page, Pages, and Modules will be examined in detail. The goal of this workshop is to provide you with an understanding for how Canvas can enhance the teaching and learning experiences of instructor and students alike.

Introduction to Canvas

Canvas is more than an online file repository. It’s an intuitive learning management system built on relationships between online tools and features that will enhance the virtual component of any course. This workshop will introduce participants to some of the basic features and functionality of Canvas that will enable them to begin designing and building their course in Canvas with confidence.

Introduction to Canvas Quizzes

This workshop will be an introduction to online assessments in Canvas using Quizzes. We will cover how to create, manage, and grade assessments effectively using tools such as Outcomes, Rubrics, and SpeedGrader.

Introduction to iClicker in Canvas

This session will cover best practices for configuring and conducting iClicker polling sessions, synchronizing the Canvas and iClicker gradebooks, and exporting scores from iClicker to Canvas. Finally, we’ll talk about pedagogically-innovative and interactive exercises to expand student participation and understanding of course concepts.  Clicker Resource Center, https://utexas.instructure.com/courses/1125742

Rethinking Assignments in Canvas

This workshop will cover how to use Modules and Assignments to create a pathway through course content. We will dig deeper into Differentiated Assignments, Peer Review, and Turnitin, a plagiarism detection tool. This will be a hands on session. Please bring a laptop.
