Austin EcoNetwork – Facebook Live Intern

Join the Austin EcoNetwork team as a Facebook Live Intern! The Austin EcoNetwork is an environmental news site based in Austin, Texas and we need your help!

This will not be a busywork kind of internship. AEN’s Facebook Live Intern will have the opportunity to jump right into the action, helping to livestream exciting events all around town, brainstorm new ideas for video storytelling, and edit videos.

The hours are flexible (will include some night and weekend work) and enthusiasm is a must.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Attending events, press conferences, panel discussions around Austin and livestreaming them
  • Helping to produce Facebook Live interview segments
  • Brainstorming new ideas to incorporate video storytelling into the Austin EcoNetwork’s weekly reporting

Who should apply:

  • Journalism Majors (those with an emphasis on broadcast or multimedia journalism are preferred)
  • Environmental Studies or Sustainability Studies majors with an interest in communications work
  • Experience with shooting live video, video editing, and film are preferred (but not required)
  • Creative individuals who are self-starters and are ready to put their passion behind an exciting project

Facebook Public Policy Externship Fall 2017

 Facebook is seeking highly organized, motivated, and detail‐oriented undergraduate and graduate students to join our Public Policy team in Washington, DC as full-time contracted externs. The Facebook DC office helps to inform users, the media, partners, employees and other stakeholders about Facebook’s products and business. Working with policymakers at the international, federal, and state levels, the team handles legislative and regulatory matters, participates in domestic and international policy discussions and leads the company’s interactions with consumer and other non-governmental organizations. Alongside Facebook team members responsible for public policy and strategic communications, externs will work on a variety of projects and policy issues with relevance in the US and around the world, ranging from legislative monitoring and policy analysis to content development. Note: This is a full-time, contract position for the Fall term.
• Pursuing a BA or graduate degree in business, law, political science, public policy, international relations, communications, journalism, or equivalent.
• Ability to commit up to 40 hours per week in our Washington D.C. office.
• Previous internship or professional experience in policy, research, communications, or government
preferred.
• Demonstrated interest in politics, public policy, and technology.
• Exemplary verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Ability to think, plan, and execute resourcefully.
• Experience in the Internet technology industry a plus.
• Passion for Facebook and online communication a must!

Communications Majors WCA Scholarship Application Open!

Women Communicators of Austin www.wcaustin.org has an annual Jo Caldwell Meyer Scholarship, which is presented at the WCA Banner Brunch event here in Austin (April 8th this year). One student will be awarded a scholarship in the amount of $2,000. Applicants must be a full-time sophomore, junior or senior at a Central Texas university and demonstrate excellence in the study of communications.
